First Visit

No need to book

Welcome to Flashpoint – we hope you have a great time climbing with us and enjoy our amazing facilities!

There is no need to book a session. So long as we’re open, you can come and climb – and keep climbing for as long as you wish!

Before you boulder with us, you’ll need to register! You can do this in the centre, but to speed things along – start the process now and pre-register here.

Please note – we have lockers and changing rooms but you will need your own padlock to secure your locker.

Duration

Unlimited: stay as long as we're open!

New to climbing?
Our Centre
0-6 year olds
7-14 year olds
14-15 year olds
16+

If you are new to bouldering we recommend you book an intro session. They cost essentially the same as a standard drop in session and include all the kit you need PLUS an instructor to show you around, teach you some basic techniques and get you up and running.

If you don’t need, or want, to do a taster session, as an adult you can pre-register online and then turn up and climb unsupervised.

What to expect:

When you arrive you’ll be greeted at our front desk by our friendly team. We can give you a quick verbal tour of the building so you know where things are and we can tell you some quick tips to get you started.

You’ll want to wear athletic clothes that you can move around in, think yoga class or running gear. It’s a good idea to bring a water bottle too, although we do have drinks and snacks in our cafĂ©!

The Basics of Bouldering:

Pick a route (they’re denoted by being holds of the same colour). Start at the bottom and make your way to the top.

To Start a Climb:

Start with your hands on the tagged holds and/or any other lower holds.

To Finish a Climb:

Match your hands on the top hold (in control) and then downclimb using any colour hold until you’re back on the mats. Jumping down is likely to cause injury.

Grades/Colours:

Lower number = easier. Higher number = harder. Green and green and purple coloured holds are always on the lower end and are great for first time climbers. all the other colours are used across the grade ranges, so check the tags at the bottom of the route. We usually set from around V0 all the way to V12. All our boulders have a Griptonite tag on them as well. You can scan this and log the climb!

Basic Safety Things To Note:

  • Holds May Spin! Please let staff know if you encounter any problems with the holds, the walls, or any of the equipment.
  • Always climb down!
  • Do not climb is someone is climbing above you.

Our Facilities: We’re a bouldering gym with auto-belays, top-out blocs, a MASSIVE 45° wall we call the Beast
and many boulders! Everything from VB intro climbs to first set out on, all the way up to techy slabs, dynamic World Cup comp blocs and crimpy V12s, we’ve got something for all styles and skill levels. There’s even a ‘Den’ area for little crushers looking to get their bouldering fix. On top of our “normal” boulders, we’ve got a range of training options and equipment, including a large circuit board, a campus board and an adjustable Kilter Board. We also have a gym where you’ll find free weights, fingerboards, rowing machines and pull-up bars – everything you need to train for that project!

Flashpoint Swindon is now suitable for under 7s. We have a newly build Den area, made for younger climbers to explore. Chat to us and sign up to supervise!

We also have a Freedog and Clip’n Climb  located in the same building, with some amazing climbing and adventure options for younger kids! Why not let us entertain them while you boulder?

An adult who has registered at our centre will normally be allowed to supervise up to two children under 16 years old. If you are supervising minors in Flashpoint you must be with them and actively monitoring them at all times.

The supervising adult must take full responsibility for the safety of the participants and complete all the relevant paperwork.

Want us to supervise instead? Check out our Kids Clubs – unlimited climbing for one monthly price, plus instructed sessions, free kit hire and 50% off your first month!

We do allow experienced teenagers to register to climb unsupervised, but they must get a parent to complete an enhanced parental consent form on top of their standard registration form.

If you are 14 or 15 your parent will need to visit the centre in order to complete the forms with you.

Independent climbing for all ages is at the duty managers discretion and can be revoked at any time.

Boulderers aged 16+ are welcome to climb independently at Flashpoint, provided you fill out the relevant registration forms. No matter what your experience, you will be asked to watch a short video induction, read our conditions of use and fill out a registration form.
